OUR FUTURE DEPENDS ON WHAT WE YEARN FOR

OUR FUTURE DEPENDS ON WHAT WE YEARN FOR

Psalms 37:2 For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb.

We who have Jesus, own the living and incorruptible seed of the Word of God. We have, imbedded within yourself the fruit of the tree of life, which not only lives and abides forever, but gives us eternal life. Why should we envy after material corruptible flesh? Why should we glory in it? It is but grass, here today and gone tomorrow.

When our eyes are turn towards the temporary earthly elements of this world, yes, we are tempted to envy; we are jealous of all that the wicked has. But if our eyes are turned towards the eternal and spiritual values of heaven, envying the fate of the wicked seems like the centennial turtle being jealous of the life span of the ephemera which in the same day is born, and dies.

What are our eyes fixed on? What are the desires of our heart? Do we yearn for the world’s dainties; for its corruptible physical and temporal values? Or do we long and desire the incorruptible spiritual and eternal wealth of the spirit?

Our dear Lord and Master advised us in these words:

Matthew 6:19-20 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:

John 6:27 Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed.
