Psa 37:35-36 KJV I have seen the wicked in great power, and spreading himself like a green bay tree. (36) Yet he passed away, and, lo, he was not: yea, I sought him, but he could not be found.

History is a witness to this Word. Nations that have challenged God and rebelled against Him such as Babel, Edom, Moab, Ammon, Amalek and the Philistines are now lost in history, and their people assimilated into oblivion never to revive. Ah, how they were great in their days! They thought they had conquered and obtained superiority even above the Most High as in the case Nimrod and the Tower of Babel. Some dared to stand in the way of the Children of God as in the case of Amalek, while others dared disrespect those who were called by His name, and mock His Laws.

But where are these people today? Is there not a lesson here for us to learn my friend?

The persecutors of God’s people then had such arrogance that they considered themselves more righteous than God’s children. They believed that their man-made religion was the worship of the true God. They based their beliefs on their abundant wealth, their military strength, and their superiority in worldly wisdom and sciences.

God doesn’t look at greatness the way we look at it (Is 55:8). God’s people throughout history have for the most part been weak, persecuted and poor. God has it so in order to keep His people pure because He knows that wealth, strength and power corrupts, just as happened at the end of the golden era of the kingdom of Israel (1 king 11)

Isn’t he the one who said that history repeats itself? (Ecc 1:9)

Though thou exalt thyself as the eagle, and though thou set thy nest among the stars, thence will I bring thee down, saith the LORD.
(Oba 1:4 KJV)
